About Theresa

Devoting over ten years to the study, practice of asana and yoga philosophy, Theresa merits over 7000 CEU’S in yoga training and teaching. She is a teacher of teachers and is a Certified Yoga Therapist with C-IYAT with the International Association of Yoga Therapists.  She serves as a teaching faculty member at The Yoga School of Therapeutics and KC Yoga Center at Zona Rosa and City Market.

 

In the 1990s Theresa suffered from sciatica and migraines from a cervical spine injury and that is when she turned to yoga to seek solace and peace in her life. The migraines disappeared with the use of asana, mantras, meditation and breathing. On Sept 1 , 2016 while walking her dog near downtown KC Theresa was hit by a car and nearly run over.  The impact from the vehicle affected the left side.  MRI results showed a torn ACL, MCL and a Meniscus tear on the left knee, as well as contusions on the femur in the upper thigh and the lower lateral femur, contusion on the fibula two herniated disks and a spondylolisthesis of L4 left her with pain.   It was in this moment where the heart and soul of yoga therapy shined as she researched  into a nutrient dense diet to help repair the bones and ligaments and practice the restorative yoga she has taught for years.
 

Today Theresa is a skilled herbalist, nutrition specialist, and studies homeopathy. She is a mother of four boys and is a strong supporter of natural childbirth and breastfeeding; thus  Prenatal and Postnatal yoga are also her specialties.  She is open to sharing her story with students so that they can know all bodies can be healed and that they can be successful as a practitioner of yoga. Theresa is the creator of the innovative "Yoga Sandbag". Theresa advises her students individually to meet their unique needs and activates this practice with her deep love of humanity and wellness.
